Coal County Release Meanings
A release record should prove three points: which custodian held the person, what ended that custody, and when the event took effect. For Coal County Jail, the custodian is the Coal County Sheriff's Office. A clear statement might say that Sheriff custody ended at a stated date and time because bond was posted, a court ordered release, a sentence ended, or another agency accepted the person. Each outcome has a different legal and practical meaning. “Released” should not replace “transferred” when the person moved straight into other custody.
Community release may follow bond, recognizance, dismissal, credit for time served, completion of a county sentence, or another court order. Recognizance means release based on a promise to return without posting a cash or surety bond. Time served means the court credited time already spent in custody toward the sentence. Coal County custody can also end through transfer to another county, a tribal authority, the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, the U.S. Marshals, or immigration custody. In those cases, the person left the county jail but may not be free in the community.
- Discharge
- An agency record showing that a correctional term or part of its legal control ended, based on the agency's exact status wording.
- Parole
- Conditional release from prison into supervision while part of the sentence remains.
- Probation
- Court-ordered community supervision that may follow a suspended or deferred disposition instead of, or after, confinement.
- Detainer
- A request or legal hold from another authority that can lead to transfer rather than community release.
Coal County Release Types
The Sheriff's actual release code controls. Coal County has not published a field dictionary, so the labels below describe the types a requester should ask the records custodian to explain. They are not claims that the jail uses these exact words or abbreviations. A short code such as “REL” or “TR” has little value without the jail-management system's legend. Ask for the code, its plain meaning, and the receiving agency when the event involved a transfer.
| Ending event | What it may mean | Next record source |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | The person left jail under terms set by law or court order. | Sheriff release entry and Coal County court docket |
| Dismissal or order | A filed court action may explain why detention ended. | Court order plus the Sheriff's processing time |
| Time served or sentence complete | The local sentence was credited or completed. | Judgment, jail credit record, and actual release entry |
| State commitment | Coal County physical custody ended when ODOC accepted the person. | Transport record, ODOC intake, then Offender Lookup |
| Other-agency transfer | A county, tribal, federal, or immigration authority became custodian. | Receiving agency record and related court case |
A parole board result does not by itself prove that the prison door release occurred. Likewise, an order reducing bond shows that release became possible, not the exact time jail staff processed it. The strongest Coal County release finding pairs the legal event with the custodian's transaction.
Important: Leaving the Coal County Jail roster can mean release, transfer, a corrected record, or a data issue. Absence alone proves none of them.
Coal County Release Record Fields
Coal County does not publish an official schema for its booking or release database. A focused request should therefore name the records and data points needed. Ask for the booking sheet, release screen or release-log entry, jail-register entry, bond paperwork, any commitment or transport paperwork, and the booking photograph if relevant. The release timestamp and reason code are the core proof. A destination field can prevent a transfer from being mistaken for community release.
A useful field inventory includes the person's full name as maintained by the jail, booking number, arresting agency, booking date and time, listed charges, bond entries, linked court or case number, release date and time, release-reason or disposition code, and a receiving agency where that field is public. Ask for a code legend. If an electronic copy already exists, requesting it in its existing format can preserve dates and labels more clearly than a verbal summary.
- Booking number: ties the answer to one custody episode.
- Release timestamp: records when the Sheriff's physical custody ended.
- Reason code: distinguishes bond, sentence completion, court action, or transfer when defined.
- Receiving agency: shows whether another authority took custody, when releasable.
- Case number: connects the jail event to the legal basis in court.
Does a court docket replace the release record? No. The docket can explain the order or sentence, but it often lacks the jail's actual door time. Use both records when exact timing matters.
Request Coal County Release Records
Coal County did not publish a dedicated Sheriff records form, email address, fee schedule, or fixed processing window in the reviewed sources. Start with the Coal County Sheriff's Office at 580-927-2121 and ask for the records custodian and preferred delivery method. The corroborated office address is 4 S. Main Street, Coalgate, OK 74538. Confirm the suite, counter instructions, current charges, and expected timing before mailing or visiting.
- Identify the person, the approximate booking interval, and the arresting or holding agency. Add a booking or case number if known.
- Request the booking sheet and release entry under the Oklahoma Open Records Act. Name the release timestamp, code and legend, and receiving agency fields.
- Ask for electronic copies in the existing format. Request advance notice of cost above a limit you choose.
- If a field is withheld, ask for the cited legal basis and a copy with nonexempt material separated or redacted.
- Compare the response with the Coal County court case and the record of any receiving authority.

Records hours and fees were not published in the official sources reviewed. Confirm before a visit.
For one day's log, define the interval by release time rather than booking time. For a longer period, give exact beginning and ending timestamps. Oklahoma law allows reasonable copy charges and certain search fees, but a state agency's posted price is not automatically Coal County's price. The Act calls for prompt, reasonable access rather than one universal number of response days.
Note: A precise request for one booking or defined release interval is easier to process than an open-ended request for all “recent” records.
Coal County Release Record Limits
The Oklahoma Open Records Act, Title 51 §§24A.1 and following, favors access while preserving exemptions found in that Act and other law. A release log may be open in whole or part without making every jail-file field public. Juvenile, medical, victim, investigative, security, sealed, and expunged material may be withheld or redacted. Expungement is a court process that can seal qualifying arrest and case records under Oklahoma law.
No official Coal County source states how long former booking records remain in a public online view because no official online view was found. That does not mean the underlying record is deleted. Ask the Sheriff which retention schedule and record series apply. Coal County Court Clerk records are more durable: the clerk states that the office keeps permanent District Court proceeding records. A sealed result or absent public result may reflect lawful limits, not proof that no custody event occurred.
A person seeking an expungement must use the current law and facts of the case. Oklahoma Title 22 §§18 and 19 set eligibility and petition rules, while the OSBI expungement process states a $150 processing fee after an order. The order must identify covered agencies and records. Filing guidance belongs with the clerk and legal advice with qualified Oklahoma counsel.
Correct Coal County Release Errors
A disputed entry should go to the office that owns it. For an error in a Coal County booking or release transaction, contact the Sheriff's records custodian and identify the booking, challenged field, and supporting official document. For a court docket entry, contact the clerk responsible for that case. A city matter may use a municipal clerk, while felony and state-law misdemeanor cases filed in Coal County District Court route to the Coal County Court Clerk.
ODOC provides a formal correction path for its own offender history. The ODOC Section 06 forms page lists DOC 060212B, “Request for Review of Individual Criminal History Record.” The person identifies the disputed ODOC entry and submits records that support review. That process is more precise than asking an unrelated search provider to edit state data. It also keeps county, court, and state corrections records in their proper lanes.
Find Coal County Released Inmates
Coal County has no verified official online inmate search, recent-release archive, 24-hour feed, or 72-hour feed as of the research date. The reliable path begins by establishing who actually held the person. Names can collide, so collect an exact legal name, spelling variants, approximate booking dates, arresting agency, case number, and booking or correctional identifier when lawfully known. An identifier is stronger than a name alone.
- Call the Coal County Sheriff's Office and ask whether the booking ended by community release, transfer, or another recorded event.
- Search OK VINE for Oklahoma and match the person to the reporting custody agency. Treat its result as notification data, not a certified release record.
- Search the Coal County case in OSCN and read the latest bond, dismissal, plea, judgment, sentence, warrant, or completion event.
- If the person went to ODOC, allow for intake and search by ODOC number or full name. Read the status exactly.
- If records point to federal or immigration custody, move to BOP, the federal case and U.S. Marshals, or ICE.
- Submit a written release-record request when an oral answer or online result does not establish the event.
Why did the name vanish? A missing entry may reflect release, transfer, corrected data, a merged booking, delay, suppression, or an outage. Say only that the person is no longer shown until an affirmative source gives the reason.
The complete county-jail route, including direct contact and records access, is also tied to the Coal County Jail release process. That route does not apply unchanged to a person who served a state or federal sentence.
Coal County ODOC Release Search
The ODOC Offender Info page is the durable official entrance to Offender Lookup. It covers Oklahoma corrections inmates and offenders, not every person booked into Coal County Jail. Someone who left the county jail on bond may never receive an ODOC record. Use an ODOC number when available, then compare identity details, offense or case data, and the displayed facility or supervision status. Open the detail record instead of relying on a result snippet.
| Search or result field | How to use it | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| ODOC number | Best key for a known state offender | County-only detainees may not have one |
| Name | Use exact spelling, then compare public identity details | Similar names can produce the wrong person |
| Location or status | Distinguishes prison, supervision, parole, probation, or discharge wording | Terms are not interchangeable |
| Offense and sentence data | Connects the state record to the right court matter | Does not replace the county release timestamp |
| Dates shown | Record the label and date exactly | A projected date is not proof of actual release |
The official ODOC search interface shows how its search and result fields are arranged.
The state screen applies only after ODOC involvement. A county release entry remains the right proof when the person never entered state custody.
ODOC may retain offense, sentence, reception, supervision, and discharge-related history. If a public result lacks the needed actual discharge fact, ODOC Legal Services lists Sentence Administration and Offender Records routes, including a discharge-specific contact. Do not use that contact to ask about a person who only left Coal County Jail.
Coal County Recent Release Gap
No official Coal County Sheriff recent-release page or roster archive was found. There is no verified feed URL, public field set, update cadence, photo policy, or online retention window to describe. No official Sheriff app or county-linked social release archive was verified either. A commercial jail directory is not evidence that Coal County publishes a release event, and it should not replace the public office that maintains the record.
For a calendar-day release list, ask for transactions from 12:00 a.m. through 11:59 p.m. Central Time on the named date. For a trailing interval, give the exact ending timestamp and work back 24 or 72 hours. Request the booking number, name, release timestamp, reason code with its legend, and receiving agency where public. If the jail indexes records by booking date, clarify that selection must use release time.
Note: A current roster, if Coal County adds one later, would show present custody and would not by itself prove a past release.
Coal County Court Release Context
The OSCN docket search lets a user select Coal County and search by case number or name. Case number is safer because names can match. Review charges, bond filings, minute orders, pleas, judgments, suspended or deferred terms, warrants, dismissals, and completion events. These entries can explain why release was authorized. They often do not record the exact moment the jail completed processing.
OSCN states that its online display is not the official court record. The Coal County Court Clerk keeps permanent District Court proceeding records at 4 N. Main, Coalgate, and handles the court's criminal division. A purely municipal Coalgate matter may follow a city clerk path instead, so first identify the court where the charge was filed. A no-result OSCN search does not prove that no arrest or release occurred.
The official Clerk page shows the local record keeper and contact path for a Coal County release-related court file.
The screenshot supports the durable court-record route, while the Sheriff's entry remains the source for the county jail release timestamp.
Coal County Release Notifications
OK VINE is Oklahoma's free, confidential custody-information and notification service. It can be used online through VINELink, through the app, or by calling 1-877-654-8463. The state lists phone, text, email, in-app, and TTY methods, subject to what the current interface offers. Search the exact person, compare the custody agency and public descriptors, and read the event wording without guessing its cause.
Notifications may cover release, transfer, escape, death, and other custody changes. That event-driven notice is useful when a person is no longer shown in a custody source. It is not a court disposition or a certified Sheriff release entry. Registering for OK VINE also does not enroll someone in the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board's separate parole-notification program.
Public sex and violent offender registries serve another narrow role. They show people who have a statutory registration duty and may include a state image or status. They are not a list of all Coal County released inmates, and registry status does not prove the reason or time of a county jail release.
Coal County Federal Release Routes
Federal systems apply only when evidence connects the person to federal custody. The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward and can show a release date with “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody.” That means BOP no longer holds the person. It does not rule out custody by a state, county, immigration agency, or another authority. A former inmate record missing from the locator may require a focused BOP records request.
The U.S. Marshals manage many federal pretrial prisoners and transfers, often through contract space. They do not provide the same sort of public former-prisoner locator. When a Coal County entry says the person went to the U.S. Marshals, use the Eastern District of Oklahoma case and the responsible Marshals office. “Released to USMS” means transfer.
The ICE Online Detainee Locator focuses on present immigration detention. Search by the required A-number and country information or by allowed biographical fields. If a Coal County record says “released to ICE” and the locator later gives no result, contact ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations. Absence from that locator alone does not prove release into the community.
Coal County Release Status Comparison
Match the question to the system. The Sheriff's record closes a county booking. ODOC tracks a state offender after commitment and can show prison, community supervision, or discharge wording. BOP tracks federal custody, while ICE's public locator focuses on current immigration detention. Court dockets explain legal events but rarely replace the custodial transaction.
| Question | Best starting source | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Did Coal County Jail custody end? | Sheriff booking and release entry | That the person entered the community if transferred |
| Did a court event permit release? | Coal County District Court or municipal court record | The exact jail processing time |
| Is the person now with ODOC? | ODOC Offender Lookup after intake | That every county booking entered state custody |
| Did BOP custody end? | BOP Inmate Locator | That no other authority holds the person |
| Is the person currently detained by ICE? | ICE Locator, then ERO | A complete history after a no-result response |
Parole and probation add another layer. A person can live outside a prison while ODOC still supervises the case. The Atoka Probation and Parole Office serves Coal County, while the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board publishes monthly decision records. The Coal County parole and probation page separates Board action, active supervision, and full discharge.
Coal County Three-Agency Release Trail
Coal County's lack of a public release feed makes three-agency reconciliation unusually important for a person with an Oklahoma corrections history. The Court Clerk preserves the durable conviction and sentence case. The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board publishes month-by-month dockets and results showing what action it considered or took. ODOC keeps the offender, discharge, and supervision trail. Each agency answers a different question.
A favorable Board result can precede actual release and may carry conditions, later action, or a detainer. Check the PPB Dockets and Results by month, then verify the resulting ODOC status. For violent offenses, a favorable recommendation may still require gubernatorial action. Home placement, consecutive sentences, paperwork, and transfer holds can also separate a decision from physical release.
The practical sequence is court case → Board decision when parole applies → ODOC custody or supervision status → actual agency release record. That chain prevents a court disposition, Board vote, projected date, and completed release from being treated as the same event.
Coal County Release Facilities
Coal County's release paths span local, state, and federal systems even though no state prison, BOP institution, or ICE detention center was identified inside the county. The first task is to name the actual custodian or receiving agency. The facility links below preserve that distinction and explain where each later record can appear.
- Coal County Jail: Sheriff release entry, OK VINE, and the Coal County court case.
- Coalgate Police Department: citation or police release record, or the named facility that accepted the person.
- Oklahoma Department of Corrections: statewide Offender Lookup, ODOC records, supervision, and discharge channels.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons: BOP Locator and federal records for a person committed to BOP.
- ICE Detention System: current ICE locator and ERO follow-up after an immigration transfer.
The Coalgate Police Department was not established as a separate long-term jail with its own public roster. Ask which facility accepted the person. That single fact avoids searching the wrong custody system and makes the later Coal County release record easier to verify.
